The Australian Charity for Burundi (ACB) Ltd, also known as the Burundian Diaspora in Australia, is a registered charity that empowers and supports communities in Burundi through education and humanitarian programs.
The charity is a membership-based, volunteer-run organisation, proudly founded by Burundians living and working across Australia. It is supported by its members who are united in a mission to create a positive impact on both our local communities and our homeland.
Our organisation’s Membership is open to anyone who aligns with the organisation’s mission and values and meets the criteria as stated in the charity’s constitution, regardless of background.

No. The ACB welcomes membership applications from individuals worldwide, regardless of country of residence; however, we aim to maintain a majority of our membership within Australia.”
Yes. A member of ACB who is not a resident of Australia can be elected to the Board of Directors. However, this is subject to the residency “floor” mandated by Australian law.
The Legal Requirement: Section 201A(2)
Under the Corporations Act 2001, the specific residency requirements depend on the type of company. Since the ACB is a Public Company Limited by Guarantee, Section 201A(2) applies:
Section 201A(2) states: “A public company must have at least 3 directors (not including alternate directors). At least 2 of those directors must be residents in Australia.”
